A great advantage in the breeding of Highland is that the animals stay outside all year round. Under the summer sun, the fall rain, untimely ice storms or during the worst arctic nights, not to mention the big snow storms, the Highland cattle face climatic conditions with disconcerting ease. However, winter conditions can cause many concerns for the breeders with regards to water supply. |
During the past few years, we experimented with different systems and we chose the Jug waterer. Let us specify that the outdoor pastures are unprotected because they are located on a crest. Therefore, they are exposed to the four winds, on some nights the temperature going down to -25° C to -30° C. Heated waterers allow a continuous supply of water to the animals, even in severe cold weather. The Borealis farm is a distributor of the Jug waterer. |
