The facilities for the Highland breeding farm are comprised of summer and winter pastures, a corral, the facilities associated to the squeeze chute, the loading area and the finishing feedlot. All
bovine farms and ranches are comprised of the same basic elements in terms
of facilities. The Borealis Farm has a divided corral to permit gathering
of the animals as well as the manipulation, sorting and to give the necessary
care to the cattle. In addition, when the situation calls for it, we can
also use the corral used for the manipulation of the bison (see "Handling"
in the Bison section), as well as the sophisticated equipment related
to the squeeze chute and the loading area.

The corral for the Highland is located outside. There are two permanent pens, one temporary pen, an access corridor, an entry pen, an entry corridor leading to a mini-pen where a scale is permanently installed, and finally a squeeze chute specifically built for the Highland. The squeeze chute, used to immobilize the animal, was constructed on site. It's door (headgate), that is used to hold the animal's head is specially manufactured for the bovine breed with imposing horns, such as the LongHorn or the Highland. To assure complete immobilization of the animal's head, we use, if needed, an immobilization table, permitting a maximum restriction of movement of the head (and the horns) of the animal contained in the chute. |
