The reproduction herd is comprised of about one hundred bison cows. These females come from different breeding farms located far away from each other, thus insuring a good genetic diversity.

Breeding generally starts at the end of July or in August and concludes at the end of the fall season. When the bison return to the winter pasture, the males and females are separated and will stay in specific lot for the winter and the beginning of spring. As for the cows, they will be confined to a winter pasture where they will give birth to their calves anywhere from April to June. The bulls will be reintroduced into the herd upon returning to the summer pasture.
